Kaye Kake Kitchen was established in 1978 in Invercargill by Evan &
Lois Penniall and now trades as Kaye’s Bakery. Now more than 25
years later our family still loves the southern lifestyle and the
bakery business.
The
success of our business has been built on the personal “hands on”
approach we take towards the production of high quality baked goods
made from natural ingredients, a philosophy of listening to what the
customer has to say and adapting to changes in the market place, along
with the look of the traditional home.
Starting from premises in Tisbury, Southland with a staff of five we
initially concentrated on baking biscuits and slices. Now our business
has diversified into other complementary areas, moved into larger and
more accessible premises in Onslow Street, Invercargill, employs
around 50 – 60 staff and have distributors throughout all major cities
within New Zealand.
We have
many innovative machines built in our modern in-house workshop which
we believe gives us the ability to produce both small and large runs
economically.
During
2001 a 25% shareholding was purchased in the local flourmill
“South Flour”, which incidentally mills only Southland (locally) grown
wheat. In January 2002 began producing the Cottrells Brand. Cottrells
is a well-known Canterbury bakery being around for approximately 50
years.
Our
range of products now includes biscuits, slices, pies, sponges, fruit
mince pies, loaves, kiwifruit export cookies and truffles. Our
products are made from quality Southland flour, we are the largest
supporter of the locally & privately owned South Flour mill. We have
based our recipes on what you would make in your own kitchen but on a
larger scale.
Apart from producing a whole
range of items under the Kaye’s label we manufacture brands for other
companies in the retail, wholesale and gift market area. We also
provide a frozen/refrigerated storage service, which includes
potatoes, trees, seeds, icecreams and frozen foods, etc.
